Ingram Content Group Inc. and Springer announced a new integrated distribution services model that combines traditional physical book fulfillment with single-copy print-on-demand solutions for Springerâ€™s entire Americas publishing program.Â According to PR sources for Ingram, the Springer $24.95 My Copy program will continue with this partnership.

Starting in the first quarter of 2011, Ingram Content Group will fully manage warehousing, fulfillment and print-on-demand for Springer using the new model. Ingram will hold Springerâ€™s entire US inventory and as it sells down, Ingram will transition titles to print-on-demand when it makes the most economic sense. All fulfillment will come through Ingram.
As the need to invest in the future of content in its many forms becomes increasingly important, publishers are facing resource decisions unlike any before. They are exploring new ways to operate and shift investments once used for the cost of warehousing and returns to developing the most innovative content. Last years law suit against 4 Universities piloting the Kindle reader as a eTextbook solution has done a lot to guarantee the accessibility of textbooks to all students.
Ingram Content Group, working with the American Foundation for the Blind consulting group (AFB Consulting), announced a new disability release for their eTextbook platform – VitalSource.Â The release, which makes the application more usable for disabled students, contains extensive internal feature and function enhancements, as well as support for third-party screen-reader applications. These new features include the new DTD (Document Type Definition) v3.4 and VitalSourceâ€™s â€œMathSpeakâ€ program which adds rich English-language articulation to MathML tags.Â With this release, VitalSource is the only eTextbook platform on the market to offer full accessibility in downloads, online, and mobile access points for content.Â Windows, MacintoshÂ®, and online updates are expected in June, and iPhoneÂ®, iPod TouchÂ®, and iPadâ„¢ releases in August. Ingram announced today the launch of PubLink. Â PubLINK is a web based tool for publishers to manage customer and media contact information and send galley copies and catalogs. Â PubLink was beta tested by Macmillan. Â Charles Bozian, VP of Finance and Administration for Macmillan said, â€œWe could not be more impressed with Ingramâ€™s PubLink, Â the PubLink platform is a comprehensive solution for Macmillanâ€™s galley needs, giving us the flexibility we need to serve our customers and media partners while enabling the transition from print to digital, seamlessly.Â We see big benefits from an operational and cost standpoint over time.Â This is where trade marketing is going.â€
