ProQuest, University of Michigan Library and Bodleian Libraries are making the full text of 25,000 booksÂ printed between 1473 and 1699Â available as open access content. These are works from the seminal ProQuest databaseÂ Early English Books Online and transcriptionsÂ are care ofÂ the Text Creation Partnership (TCP). The University of Michigan Library is opening to the public 2,229 searchable keyed-text editions of books from Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO). Â The texts are available to the public at no cost.
ECCO is a research database containing significant English- and foreign-language titles printed in the United Kingdom during the 18th century and important works from the America The database is published by Gale, part of Cengage Learning.
The texts typed by the Text Creation Partnership, range from Pope’s â€œEssay on Manâ€ to a â€œDiscourse addressed to an Infidel Mathematician.â€ Â The Text Creation Partnership (TCP) produced the keyed texts in collaboration with Gale, which provided page images for keying and is permitting the release of the keyed texts in support of the Libraryâ€™s commitment to the creation of open access cultural heritage archives. January 11, 2011 (ANN ARBOR, Mich.) â€“ ProQuest will digitize more than 30,000 rare early books from the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB), the National Library of the Netherlands, capturing every volume in high-resolution color scans. This is the third major European national library to participate in ProQuestâ€™s Early European Books project after the Danish Royal Library, Copenhagen and the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze in Italy. As with the agreements in Denmark and Italy, the material will be free to access in the host country.
