De Gruyter will electronically distribute a selection of current CUP publications and an extensive backlist of over 1,000 eBooks. Furthermore, in a joint digitalization project, over 3,000 out-of-print titles will be made available as eBooks and hardcover reprints. Starting with volume 2015, De Gruyter Open (www.degruyteropen.com) will publish a group of eight Central European Journals now distributed in subscription model by Springer and turn them to Open Access.Â This is a move unprecedented for a group of STM journals, being supplemented by three new launches in the humanities. DeGruyter has released a white paper titled, Patron Driven Acquisition: A Model for Providing Complete Access to Electronic Content While Limiting Costs For Libraries.Â It discusses a new business model for electronic content – books, journals, and databases.

De Gruyter, the Berlin-based academic publishing company, is acquiring the publisher Versita. As a service provider to academic organizations and bodies, Versita publishes over 230 journals on Open Access basis, i.e. outside the traditional subscription model. With this acquisition De Gruyter is substantially increasing its presence in an important future market of academic publishing. The complete staff of Versita is being retained in this take-over. DeGruyter and Harvard University Press just announced a new collaboration. Â DeGruyter will serve as a sales partner for HUP’s eBook collection, both front and backlist. Â The titles will be available on DeGruyter’s recently released interface which integrates book, journal, and databank content.
